The basics
What is IfYes?
IfYes lets you ask your friends a yes/no question you'd never ask out loud — "Would you go out with me?" — anonymously, while secretly meaning it for one of them. Friends who answer yes make one guess at who's asking. Only if the one you picked says yes and guesses it's you do you both find out. Anything else, nobody ever knows anything happened.
Who sees my question?
All of your friends — but never your name. To them it's "one of your friends asked this." Who's asking, and who it's really for, both stay secret.
Does the person I pick know the question is for them?
No. To them it looks exactly like it does to every other friend: an anonymous question in their feed. They only find out they were the one if they say yes and guess you.
How does guessing work?
Answering yes takes one guess at who posted the question. Your yes only counts for the person you name — you can never match with someone you didn't consciously choose. One guess, no retries, and your guess is never shown to anyone.
Can other friends answer too?
Yes, and that's the cover. Everyone's answers land as anonymous counts — "4 answered" — so both the asker and their person hide in the crowd. Nobody ever sees who said what, or who guessed whom.
Matches
What happens on a match?
When the one you secretly picked says yes and guesses it's you, you both get a notification, the question is archived so only you (the asker) can still see it, and a private chat opens between the two of you. Nobody else is told anything.
What happens if they say no — or guess wrong?
Nothing. Truly nothing. A no is never relayed, and neither is a wrong guess. The question lives out its normal 7 days and vanishes like every other. From the outside, declining, guessing wrong, and never opening the app are indistinguishable.
Why does the match chat only keep 7 messages?
The chat is a spark, not a place to live. As new messages arrive, the oldest fade away permanently. Say hi, swap numbers, take it to real life.
Questions
How long do questions last?
7 days, always. Every question vanishes for everyone on schedule, whether it matched, was declined, or was never seen. The expiry never explains itself — that's what protects everyone involved.
Can I delete a question I posted?
Yes, at any time before it expires. It disappears from all your friends' feeds immediately.
Do I have to pick someone when I post?
Yes — the secret pick is the whole game. A question without one is just a poll, and there are other apps for that.
Friends
How do I add friends?
By phone number. If they're on IfYes, they get a friend request to approve — friendships are always mutual. If they're not on the app yet, you can text them an invite instead.
Why do I need 5 friends to post?
Anonymity needs a crowd. With only 1 or 2 friends, "one of your friends asked this" isn't anonymous at all — and neither are the answers. Five friends is the minimum for you, your secret pick, and everyone's answers to stay genuinely hidden.
Can I answer questions before I have 5 friends?
Yes. You can browse and answer your friends' questions from day one — the 5-friend rule only applies to posting your own.
Privacy
Can anyone pay to find out who asked, who answered, or who was picked?
No, and there never will be such a feature. Apps before us sold hints that de-anonymized answers; we think that breaks the only thing that makes honest answers possible. The only way anything is revealed on IfYes is a mutual yes.
What data do you keep about me?
As little as the app needs: your phone number, username, optional photo, friend connections, and your questions and answers until they expire. Details in the Privacy Policy.
